A newly formed Economic Summit brought together an amazing group of people (big shout out to Erick and Bryan Went of Matter Labs for being amazing leaders in our startup ecosystem!) from the community within the city and the surrounding region with the explicit goal of taking a new approach to how the city grows and overcomes ongoing challenges created by being adverse to change for so long.
It was really refreshing to deal with both city leadership, like Dave Norman and Tom Fox, and independent consultants, The Natelson Dale Group, that are so self aware of the problem of trying to solve Information Era problems with Industrial Era tactics.
The first summit meeting we attended this week was very exciting because the questions did not start and end with, “What do you want to see in our city?” or any other “What” question.
The focus of the meeting was largely on the question of “Why?” Which is something 805 Startups and our most respected partners prioritize above all else.
The answer to “why” should be what guides every strategy and decision made. It should be what provides context around how you evaluate and apply the results of the actions you take. It should be what drives you to learn and grow more effectively.
We really want to take a moment to applaud the City of Camarillo for taking a big step forward to grow their city in a prosperous manner for the long term.
It is an honor to be placed in this role for another wonderful city in our region. The City of Thousand Oaks being the first to include us (another great city focused on modernizing without losing their culture).
We look forward to working together with these cities to bolster our shared economies by growing startup ecosystems across the region. |
